What is a Pregnancy Due Date Calculator?
A pregnancy due date calculator is a tool used to estimate the date your baby will be born. While only about 5% of babies arrive exactly on their due date, having an estimated date is crucial for tracking your baby's development, scheduling prenatal care, and preparing for your little one's arrival.
How We Calculate Your Due Date
Our calculator uses standard medical formulas to provide the most accurate estimate possible without an ultrasound. We support three primary calculation methods:
- Naegele's Rule (LMP): This is the standard method used by doctors. It adds 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your Last Menstrual Period (LMP). We also allow you to adjust for your cycle length if it differs from the standard 28 days.
- Conception Date: If you know the exact date of conception (ovulation), we add 266 days (38 weeks) to that date. This is often more accurate for women with irregular cycles.
- IVF Transfer Date: For pregnancies resulting from In Vitro Fertilization, we calculate based on the transfer date, adding 263 days for a 3-day transfer or 261 days for a 5-day transfer.
Why Accurate Due Dates Matter
Knowing your Estimated Due Date (EDD) helps your healthcare provider monitor your baby's growth against standard benchmarks. It determines when you should undergo specific screenings (like the anatomy scan or glucose test) and helps distinguish between preterm, full-term, and post-term labor.
